Our Approach to Hybrid Surgical-Catheter Ablation

If you have persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib), a type of abnormal heart rate, medications and repeated treatment may not control your symptoms. At Stanford, our heart experts are among the first in the country to develop a hybrid surgical-catheter approach to treat persistent AFib.

Electrophysiologists (specialists in conditions that affect the heart’s electrical system) and heart surgeons in our Arrhythmia Center work together to treat the heart from both inside and out. This innovative, collaborative approach provides better long-term outcomes and improves your quality of life.

What Is Hybrid Surgical-Catheter Ablation?

Hybrid surgical-catheter ablation is used to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib).

This procedure may be helpful if you have had several previous catheter ablations, have chronic AFib, or have an enlarged left upper heart chamber. We discuss your treatment options with you to decide on the right plan for your needs.
