Stanford University Medical Center has over a century's heritage of innovation and care. The Stanford Eye Laser Center is an integral part of that heritage, committed to the safest and most advanced techniques for correcting vision. Vision that is less reliant on traditional correctional methods such as glasses and contact lenses means greater mobility, freedom, and safety—and the Stanford Eye Laser Center is a leader in the technology that makes such unhindered vision possible.
If glasses or contacts seem to interfere with your enjoyment of daily life and activities, laser vision correction can help. Low, moderate, and severe nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism may be corrected by one of the procedures.
Also please understand that any surgery carries some risk. Laser vision correction is highly successful, but you should review all the information available before making a decision.
A free initial evaluation is conducted by Dr. Manche, who specializes in laser vision correction procedures. This evaluation is necessary to determine if you are a suitable candidate for laser vision correction.
After the initial free evaluation, if you choose to proceed with treatment, your next visit will include testing specific to the procedure, such ascorneal mapping, measurements, and a dilated exam. The charge for this visit is $203. This amount will be deducted from your treatment cost. The fee is payable at the time of service. Payment may be made by check or most major credit cards. Most insurance companies do not cover this procedure.
Whether you elect LASIK, PRK, or one of the other procedures, the entire process takes approximately two hours. Recovery is usually around one to two days. During the procedure you will remain awake, made comfortable through the use of anesthetic eye drops. The actual time which is spent on the procedure is only a few minutes, and you can have someone drive you home almost immediately.
The level of improvement depends on many factors, including the severity of your condition. The overwhelming majority of persons who undergo laser vision correction will notice a distinct improvement. The majority of patients regain a level of clarity and sharpness that will negate the need for correctional devices such as glasses or contacts.
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
